Landmark U S Supreme Court Decision Paves The Way For Legalized Sports Betting
Following results of the 2020 election, Maryland approved sports betting. Wagering on pro and college sports became legal in September of 2019 with both mobile and in-person betting permitted at multiple locations. In 2020, the state put legalizing sports betting under consideration. Senator Denny Hoskins’ attempts to get sports betting legalized in MO in 2021 were derailed, but he will reportedly pre-file a bill for the 2022 legislative session in December, as per Missourinet. The bills expired in May of that year, after the state legislature closed early due to Covid 19. Despite this the Governor’s support is a big positive for sports wagering in the Last Frontier.
According to a state regulator, ongoing delays with the approval process signal no action to legalize sports betting in Maryland until early 2022. Furthermore, on Wednesday, Nov. 3, SWARC declined to award any retail sportsbook licenses despite five casino applications being forwarded to the group last month. State legislators passed a series of enabling statutes, and the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission approved regulations on July 15, 2021. The state legislature approved rules for online sports betting during the 2021 session. Retail sports betting was legalized in the wake of PASPA, with the first bet placed on July 16, 2019, at the Rivers Casino in Schenectady. Despite retail betting outlets found at the state’s casinos, New York loses hundreds of millions in annual gaming revenue to New Jersey and neighboring states.
The Quapaw Nation built and operates the Jefferson county gaming facility. Sports betting in Michigan was legalized on December 20, 2019, when sports wagering was included in a package of gambling expansion bills. As of right now, every casino in the state has been approved by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to offer a land-based sportsbook.
