09 Aug Ice Ice Breaker
During UBC Social Enterprise Club’s Ice Ice Breaker Innovation Jam, the first event of its kind, students from all faculties and skill levels had the opportunity to engage with 5 different social enterprises from various fields and were able to apply their skills directly to ideating solutions to social issues. The event began with an opening keynote from two SEC alumni, Fran Aguila and Priyanka Vasudev, who were in the process of launching their own social venture, Kanekta, centered around ethical consumerism. Then, attendees enjoyed a delicious dinner catered by local Vancouver social enterprise HAVE Cafe before moving on to the Innovation Jam component of the event. Five social enterprises including Terramera, SPUD, ReBuild, LET’S, and Kanekta, presented a challenge that their company was facing to the students, who then had the opportunity to team up with one of the entrepreneurs in small groups to break down the obstacle and create innovation solutions that will create real impact, with the potential of having their ideas implemented into the business. The students had the opportunity to both collaborate and create solutions to real challenges, and make lasting connections with like-minded individuals and social entrepreneurs.
